Wild trout and grayling
Several native trout lineages live in the Balkans. We treat them as something to understand and protect, not a checklist.
Brown trout
Salmo trutta
The main target across the region. Wild, spotted and found in almost every cold stream we fish.
All five countries
Grayling
Thymallus thymallus
The famous fish of Bosnia's spring creeks. On the Pliva, grayling can reach half a metre.

Marble trout
Salmo marmoratus
A large, marbled trout of the Adriatic rivers, found in parts of the Drin and Valbona systems.

Softmouth trout
Salmo obtusirostris
An endemic Adriatic trout of the Neretva system. It's conservation-sensitive, so it's always fished responsibly.

Macedonian trout
Salmo macedonicus
A native trout of cold mountain rivers, including the Treska, Radika and their tributaries.
North Macedonia
Ohrid trout
Salmo letnica
Endemic to Lake Ohrid and its connected waters, with an unusual evolutionary history.
